How it Works 🍎
Generally speaking, how do you work?
We believe that no food should go to waste and no person should go hungry. That's why we source 🍐, hand pack and securely deliver delicious boxes of recovered produce a weekly and bi-weekly basis. For every delivery, we subsidize 1-2 lbs of produce for families living in food deserts through our Produce in a SNAP sites. We currently deliver in Maryland, DC, Northern Virginia, Philly, and South New Jersey.
What does recovered mean?
Recovered produce comprises fruits and vegetables that are perfectly fine to eat, but would have otherwise been thrown away. It's often discarded because of aesthetic imperfections (think misshapen eggplants) or logistical inefficiencies (when grocery stores over order).
What comes in a harvest?
You can personalize your harvest by letting us know what produce you love 💖 and what produce you can't stand 🙅. We have a variety of options catered to fit your lifestyle. The variety changes week to week, but you can list up to six items you never want to receive on your never list. Our most popular option, the Mini Harvest, is great for 1-2 people. Want to see more?
Do I have to commit to a regular order?
Definitely not. Commitments are scary! We understand that life gets busy. You can cancel or place a hold - just log on and click Skip Deliveries.
Can I cancel at any time?
We hoped you wouldn't ask 🙈... but yes, of course. We don't like contracts either! Just let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or chatting below.
When do I get billed?
On the Tuesday after your delivery is made! We'll never, ever charge you before a delivery arrives.
Where do you deliver?
We're so glad you asked 😍! We deliver in Maryland, DC, Northern Virginia, Philly, South New Jersey and surrounding areas and surrounding areas. Want to see if we're in your area?
When do you deliver?
It depends on your zip code! You'll see your delivery day during signup, or you can check out our delivery times here. Plus, we'll send you a text message with an ETA when we're on the way with your 📦. We'll also send another text message when your harvest is delivered!
If it's before 8:30 AM, we won't knock or ring the doorbell. Sleep is precious, we get that 😴. We'll send our regular text message and leave the harvest per your instructions. If you'd like a knock or doorbell ring before 8:30 AM, please just let us know in your instructions!
Do you I have to be home to accept the delivery?
Nope! You can leave specific instructions for us so we know where to leave your beautiful fruits 'n' veggies if you're not home! If you are home, we'll kindly ask for a signature 🏠. If you'd like, feel free to leave out a large cooler for your harvest! Just be sure it's big enough for the entire box. Our drivers can't take out the produce due food safety regulations.
Can I skip deliveries or place a hold?
Of course! Like we said, commitments are scary. If you're going out of town or just want to take a break, you can easily place a delivery hold by logging on and clicking skip deliveries! You can enter any amount of time you'd like to go on hold for. Please be sure to skip your delivery or make change by your order cutoff, which you'll see in your account area and during signup!
How often are deliveries? Can I change my frequency?
You can select weekly or every other week deliveries at signup. If you'd like to switch from weekly to every other week or vise versa, that's no problem at all! To change your frequency, all ya have to do is log on and click Manage my Subscription and frequency. Just be sure to check your next delivery date after you make the change.
Can you deliver to my office?
We sure can! We offer Monday deliveries in and around DC, Philly, and Baltimore. Shoot us a message at email@example.com to discuss office partnership opportunities. Plus, we even have an office harvest filled sharable fruits so you can health-ify your break room!
Do you deliver to apartments?
Absolutely! You can leave specific delivery instructions when you sign up, such as the building name, code to get in, or where to leave the harvest. We'll be sure your harvest gets to ya!
Our Food 🍉
Is your produce organic?
We do offer USDA certified organic harvests! You can find our three organic options here. Our other harvests are not 100% organic, but they are consciously sourced. For example, many small farms use natural methods but can't afford to go through the USDA certification. For more info on the farms we work with, click here.
Is it locally grown year round?
We place a higher priority over recovering produce from going to waste than its origin. During the growing season (late spring through late fall) we source mostly locally. In the offseason, we expand our network to farms in warmer regions of the country such as Florida. Check out some of our favorite winter farmers here.
What produce is typical? How will I know what's coming?
The cool thing about Hungry Harvest is that our produce variety changes daily! We only offer what's fresh and available, so you might meet some new fruits and veggies with us. We send out a weekly This Week's Harvest email detailing what's coming every Thursday afternoon. We also update it on our site! Can I get other groceries with my harvest?
What's the best thing since sliced bread? Recovered sliced bread 🍞! We partner with local bakers and makers in your area to help them reduce unnecessary waste and give back. We offer a variety of add ons, from fresh eggs to bread to coffee! We're working hard to add new delicious grocery items to our marketplace! Every Monday, we send an email out detailing what's new.
But I'm not a professional chef...
No worries, follow our lead! We update our recipe guide with simple recipes using main ingredients from the delivery. We also post yummy creations on our Pinterest. Plus, we send a weekly email detailing what's coming with recipe suggestions. We even have a top secret recipe club on Facebook where heroes can swap ideas and post harvest creations! Want in? How do friend referrals work?
Friends don't let friends miss out on fresh produce 👯. When someone signs up with your name, you'll both get 25% off a harvest. All they have to do is put your full name under Who Referred You? at checkout. We'll take care of the rest! Discounts do not apply to add ons, by the way!
What do I do with my empty harvest box?
As a produce company, we have to adhere to strict food safety guidelines. So, unfortunately we can't reuse the boxes! Kindly recycle or reuse them 📦. If you don't have access to recycling, your driver can pick up empty harvests boxes for us to recycle.
Do you accept SNAP/EBT?
We sure do accept SNAP/EBT (formerly known as food stamps)! Head over to our Produce in a SNAP site for more details.
