Chinese Fried Rice

Revisit Chinese 5 Spice powder.  Our Harvest Heroes are asking for more creative uses of spices.  So here we go.  Harvest Hack: Get a few good spice blends.  Mixed flavors in one bottle create tasty mouthwatering dishes. They say we eat w/ our eyes & indeed we do.  But our sense of smell rules our taste.  Perfume your home w/ the fragrances of simmering spices & everyone runs to the table.  There's no place like home, especially when we are cooking!



  • 1 1/2 Quarts Harvest Vegetables (I used peas, onion, green pepper, jalapeño, summer squash)
  • 1 Tbs Garlic, sliced
  • 1 Tbs Ginger, minced
  • 2 Tbs Sesame Oil
  • (Opt) 1 1/2 Tsp Chinese 5 Spice Powder
  • (Opt) 2 Cups Bean Sprouts
  • 3 Cups Cooked Brown Rice
  • 1 Cup Broth
  • 2 Tbs Soy Sauce
  • 2 Eggs
  • (Opt) 1 Lemon, juice & zest
  • Tomato Cuke Garnish
  • 1 Tomato, large dice
  • 1 Cucumber, dice
  • 1 Citrus, juice & zest
  • Flavor w/ a dash of hot sauce, splash of soy sauce, & minced garlic or ginger to taste

  • Toasted Peanuts
  • Toasted Coconut

Like all stir fry this comes together fast, so prep everything before you begin.  Combine the Harvest vegetables w/ the garlic, ginger & sesame oil & fry over high heat for 3 or 4 mins.  Add the Chinese 5 Spice & fry for 2 mins more. 

Add the broth, soy sauce & lemon zest & cook for about 5 mins, until veggies are tender.  Stir in the bean sprouts and toss for a min.  Add the brown rice and stir fry until hot and the liquid is mostly absorbed, about 3 to 5 mins. 

Lightly beat, then add in the eggs, but don’t over stir them, you’ll want to have them cook in nice visible ribbons.  I flavored mine w/ some cilantro, ponzu & hemp seeds.  Flip the eggs to cook through.  They only take a couple of mins.  Squeeze fresh lemon juice over, if desired & serve. 

Any leftovers are microwave friendly so make extra to take to work.  Serve some cold in lettuce wraps too.  I used the lentil brown rice mix from the Mujadara to make this Chinese Fried Rice full of nutritious protein.  I used an orange tomato for visual beauty.  Share your creations on Hungry Harvest social media.
